We can only hope that the title of this misbegotten swords-and-sandals adventure is prophetic.. [Yimou] turns the Rape of Nanking into a visually stunning melodrama. But the effect of such extreme contrast is unsettling to say the least.. I have too much respect for Kingsley and Firth to believe they did this for anything other than the money, and to their credit, they give their best efforts.. It might be willfully naive, but it also successfully argues that the path to peace begins with a layi...
